Doug Foote graduated from Lynchburg Clay High School in 1977 and graduated from Kentucky Christian College with a B.S. degree, and Morehead State University in 1983 with a B.A. degree while graduating from both with honors. He received his master’s degree from Xavier University in Physical Education in 1987.
After college, Doug began his teaching and coaching career at his alma mater Lynchburg Clay HS coaching the girl’s basketball team and boys track team. He took over a basketball program that had not won a game in two years and in his second year went 18-5 and went 59-29 in four years.
Doug then went on to the University of Rio Grande where he was the men’s assistant coach for two years before taking over as Head Coach of the Women’s basketball program for three years winning 67 games and being named Coach of the Year in 1992 and winning the MOC. He also served as the MOC Chairman from 1990-92.
Following his five years at Rio Grande Doug took over the men’s basketball program at Marietta College and coached there for 15 years setting 41 school records and finished with the third most wins in school history. Doug while at Marietta served on several committees such as the All American selection committee for the Great Lakes Region and the Great Lakes tournament selection committee. He also served as the OAC Coaches’ Vice Chairman and OAC President.
His proudest accomplishment was raising over $60,000 in his three point attack for Coaches vs Cancer and being Nationally recognized by the NABC. Doug also established the Dream to Read Program in the elementary schools, along with numerous summer camps. Doug also spoke at several camps, clinics and banquets as well as ran his own coaches clinic. Doug also established the annual Alumni weekend, and revised the athletic award system.
After Marietta, Doug helped implement a PEP grant concentrating on Wellness and Fitness in the Warren School District purchasing over $200,000 in various wellness equipment and programs.
The past 12 years Doug has been the Athletic Director and Dean of Students at New Richmond HS. As Dean of Students he is in charge of all Student Activities including trips, fundraisers and facilities. As Athletic Director Doug walked into a very good situation following a tremendous AD and has added on to many things that had been established and starting several other new programs. During his time at New Richmond he overseen the building of the new softball & baseball complex having the first turf infields in the area, in addition to purchasing new scoreboards for the softball and baseball complex, the gymnasium and the swimming pool. Also during his time at NR he was overseen the new turf at the stadium and new track. He also has established a Hall of Fame day during the winter basketball season plus many other projects.
He is active in the SWOADA & a member of the OIAAA & NIAAA. Doug also has served on the SWDAB for the past 7 years. During this span of time he has been recognized by the Southwest Ohio Athletic Directors Association with the following awards: OIAAA Citation Award, OIAAA Meritorious Award, NIAAA State Award of Merit, The OIAAA Athletic Director of the Year & the SWOADA Athletic Director of the Year, as well as being inducted into the OIAAA Hall of Fame.
Doug has been married to his high school sweetheart Nancy for 38 years and they have a son Derek his wife Shannon and two grandchildren, Hadley & Beckett which are his pride and joy.
